Experiments

Use a tracked link to measure visits and outcomes for one Opportunity.

An Experiment measures one Opportunity with a tracked link. It records visitors who enter through that link and the outcomes Graytower can observe afterward.

With cookieless tracking, an entry can still be measured, but a later outcome cannot reliably be linked to that anonymous visitor across days. Treat long attribution windows as limited.

Set up the test

  1. Open an Opportunity and choose Start Experiment.
  2. Write a specific hypothesis, such as “Sharing the pricing guide in a founder community will bring trial signups.”
  3. Choose a destination on a registered Website domain with the tracker installed.
  4. Choose the primary outcome: visit, signup, activation, or payment. For signup or activation, select the exact custom event your app sends.
  5. Choose an attribution window of 7, 14, 30, 60, or 90 days.

Graytower creates a destination URL with campaign parameters and a gt_exp experiment key. For example, it may look like this:

Plain text
https://northstar.app/pricing?utm_source=founder_forum&utm_medium=community&utm_campaign=graytower_pricing_abcde&gt_exp=exp_ABCDE

Use the link Graytower gives you in the post, campaign, or outreach being tested. The URL above is illustrative; a made-up gt_exp value will not identify your Experiment. When the tracker receives a qualified entry, it records that context.

Read results

The experiment reports recorded visitors, selected outcomes, customers, and revenue by currency where payment matching supports it. Graytower uses the last qualified Experiment for experiment payment attribution within the chosen window. Acquisition attribution remains a separate view of the same payment.

Results compare with recent site context; that comparison is directional, not a randomized test. Small visitor counts, missing outcome events, weak identity or payment coverage, and an unavailable baseline can make a result inconclusive. After you end an Experiment, its result may continue maturing until the attribution window closes.
